In a surprise announcement today, Samsung have released their Samsung Gear 360 – a 360° Video Camera – in Australia.
The surprise is not so much that it is now available in Australia (they have been announcing releases in different countries since the initial launch in South Korea on 29 April 2016), but what has come as a bit of a shock is the price…. at just $499 this camera is an absolute bargain (and the Australian pricing makes this the cheapest retail price yet world wide). The Gear 360 was launched in New Zealand on 27 May at $649 (and is currently still that price) but has not yet officially launched in the USA or UK.
The Gear 360 features dual fisheye lenses, each with a 15-megapixel image sensor, and is capable of capturing high-resolution (3840×1920) 360-degree video and 30-megapixel stills. Gear 360 can also shoot 180-degree wide angle video and images by using only one of its two lenses and sensors. Its lenses have a f/2.0 maximum aperture, which helps it to capture images in low-light conditions.
Gear 360 is compatible with select Samsung smartphones including the newly released Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6+, Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6.
Currently only available at the Samsung Shop… but expected to be available at other Australian retailers later in the year.
